Umbraco is an open-source .NET based Web Content Management System (CMS). It is extremely popular and one of the most deployed CMS platforms globally, used on 730,000+ sites and counting. Deepend have proudly been a registered Umbraco Solution partner for over 10 years, delivering a number of highly effective, business critical Umbraco platforms in this time.
We have found it to be one of the most intuitive, flexible, customiseable and extensible CMS platforms on the market, and we have had the pleasure of deploying Umbraco solutions from a wide range of customers and markets, from Financial Services to Arts and Entertainment and B2B Products. Key clients include Teacher Health (Insurance), Australian Radio Network (Entertainment), Royal Flying Doctors Service (Not for Profit), Westfund (Health Insurance) and Sydney Writers Festival (Arts).
There are several different instances of the platform, each with its own strengths and core virtues. These include:
The original, downloadable instance of Umbraco, now in it’s 16th year. Currently up to version 12, the platform continues to be one of the most intuitive, easily configurable CMS platforms in the world.
The all in one, cloud based instance of Umbraco, allowing you to spin up a clean, hosted instance of the platform in a number of minutes. Being cloud based means that Umbraco takes care of things like hosting, security patching and basic maintenance for you, allowing you to focus on getting the most our of your website.
Umbraco Heartcore is the headless, SAAS offering of the platform, built on Umbraco backoffice. Being headless, the standard “front-end” of the site is removed, whilst maintaining the interface to add / edit content. Via API’s, this content can then be served to any number of channels and platforms, such as mobile apps, tablets etc.
Content is sent via a Content Delivery Network (CDN), using Cloudflare, allowing for delivery of content to multiple channels in a seamless, lightweight manner.
Umbraco Heartcore is currently housed in an Azure Data centre in Europe. We are looking forward to its release in an Oceania data centre some time soon!
In our experience, Umbraco is super intuitive, meaning even teams with a basic level of digital literacy will be up and running quickly. At the same time, it is highly configurable, meaning it can expand in capability and complexity in line with the evolution of your teams capabilities. This means it’s the sort of CMS platform that you will maintain and grow for years, making it highly cost effective over time.
Umbraco has a range of features built in to allow you to maximise your SEO footprint. You’ll still need to do the research and maintain the schema and content of your site accordingly. But the Umbraco interface will make it extremely easy to do so.
So, whether you are in the early stages of considering what platform to author your site on, or you are an existing Umbraco user looking for specific expertise to improve your platform, we would welcome the chance to partner with you. There are a number of initial ways we could engage with you, including:
We have performed a number of overarching performance audits of Umbraco installs lately, with a view to streamlining and improving the infrastructure set up. In our most recent works, this saw a month on month decrease of elastic hosting fee’s of around 30-40%.
Whether its migration of an existing front end from an expensive enterprise platform to Umbraco, or simply management of an Upgrade from one version to another, we have a broad range of experience. With Umbraco 7 approaching end of life, there’s no time like the present to plan your upgrade.
With the business continuity and brand equity of large firms being impacted weekly by data and security breaches, this is a highly topical and present area for discussion. We have performed a number of security audits of late, ensuring that any data stored or captured, is done so in a highly secure and encrypted manner.
Despite being Australia’s largest collection of commercial radio stations, ARN’s digital platform was lagging behind the well commercialised content publishing platforms of rivals such as SCA and Nova. The publishing mechanism was tedious, content syndication was non-existent and the platform was under-commercialised.
As such, ARN sought to reshape their online content offering and transform their business into a digitally savvy online publisher.
