The Challenge

The inflight entertainment industry demands constant innovation to enhance passenger experience and optimise content delivery. Establishing a strategic edge requires a deep understanding of evolving consumer preferences and the application of cutting-edge technology. West Entertainment, a global leader in inflight entertainment content licensing, aimed to reaffirm its market position by reimagining its core platform, "We by West". Their ambition was to transform their offering into a highly personalised and intelligent recommendation system. This initiative positioned West Entertainment at the forefront of digital product development, demonstrating a commitment to innovation that benefits both clients and their diverse passenger base. Our partnership aimed to unlock new value, ensuring they maintain leadership by delivering unparalleled, data-driven experiences.

Our Approach

Our role involved a comprehensive technical assessment of West Entertainment's platform and the development of a strategic roadmap for enhancements. A core output was prototyping the integration of Qloo, an AI-based “Taste Correlation” Engine, into "We by West". This sophisticated AI leverages machine learning to predict consumer preferences across various cultural categories like film, music, and travel, identifying taste correlations. This enabled "Intelligent Content Recommendations," optimising inflight entertainment selections based on passenger tastes, globally and by route. The "Taste Match" feature, driven by historical viewing and social media data, allows users to filter for tailored recommendations, providing a major point of difference for their planning, recommendation, and IFE scheduling tools.

Redesigned the "We by West" platform for enhanced user experience. Intelligent recommendations implemented AI-driven content recommendations tailored to passenger tastes and filters personalised recommendations based on route, genre, and trends.

Integrated Qloo, a leading artificial intelligence platform on culture and taste. Combined with machine learning for predicting and correlating passenger preferences and prototyped Qloo’s API integration within the content licensing platform.
